Academy of Arts (the Royal)


Academy of Arts (the Royal) Burlington House, Piccadilly. open from first Monday in May to first Monday in August from 8 a. m. to 7 p. m. for the Annual Exhibition of Pictures by living Artists.

During the last week open also from 7. 30 p. m. to 10. 30 p. m. ; This is one of the places where those with an interest in current art can become acquainted with the works of most of the prominent painters of the time.

The Royal Academicians elect their own members and associates. The President is always an artist of rank, and the position has been lately occupied by Lord Leighton, Sir John Millais and Sir E. J. Poynter.

In addition to the Annual Exhibition there is usually one of works by Old Masters and deceased British artists for ten weeks, commencing on the first Monday in January from 9 am, to 6 p. m. ; Gibson and Diploma Galleries, free daily, from 11 am. to 4 p. m.
