Billingsgate The Great London Fish Market; so called, according to Geoffrey of Monmouth, after Bilin King of the Britons, who built the first water. gate here 400 years B. c. It stands on the left bank of the river, a little below London Bridge. The language of Billingsgate is not noted for its refinement. The market is opened at 5 am. |
