Lombard Street

Lombard Street extends from the Mansion House to Gracechurch Street, is principally inhabited by bankers: it takes its name from the Longobards, a rich race of bankers, who settled here in the reign of Edward Ii. Several of the princely old private bankers have their business homes in this street, such as Barclay & Company, Glyn, Mills, & Company, Martin's, etc.
