Obelisk

Obelisk (the) at the south end of Blackfriars Road stands in the centre of five roads, was erected in 1771 in honour of Bass Crosby, Lord Mayor of London, on account of his obtaining the release from prison of a newspaper printer, who was imprisoned for printing the debates in Parliament, since when they have been fully printed.
