Tottenham Court Road


Tottenham Court Road A handsome, broad street leading from Oxford Street to Euston Road. A celebrated public house, with tea. gardens, used to stand at the Euston Road end, and it was in front of this house that Hogarth painted his celebrated picture from, of the Guards' March to Finchley; this picture is now in the Foundling Hospital, and can be seen, with other valuable pictures, by the public any Sunday after service at the Foundling Chapel. Meux's well. known Brewery is situated at the Oxford Street end, famous for its porter. vats and artesian well.

At the Euston Road end Charles Baker & Co. , Limited, have a Branch Depot for their Real West of England Clothing, and although only a branch of this well. known firm, it is one of the largest concerns of the kind in London. Next to them come Maple's Furniture Establishment, which stands on several acres of ground; and next is the gigantic Drapery concern of Shoolbred's, who now, in addition to drapery, supply groceries and provisions, wines, spirits, etc.
