Westminster Hall


Westminster Hall If the Houses of Parliament are a monument of the Victorian period of progress, Westminster Hall is representative of the past, being built by William Rufus, and rebuilt in the 13th and 14th Centuries. In this hall were held the early English Parliaments, and her e, down to George Iv. , the English monarchs held their coronation festivals.

Memorable State trials have been held here. Charles I. , William Wallace, Sir 'thomas More, Guy Fawkes, the Earl of Strafford, were all tried anti condemned to death in this Hall. Warren Hastings was also tried here and acquitted. The Hall is surrounded by statues of our king. : and queens, and its fine roof is greatly admired.
