The London 2012 Olympic Games

The Olympics are due to hit London in 2012 and there has been much planning for this major event since it was announced that London had won the bid for the Games on the 6th July 2005.

The The Olympic Park will be the main focal point for the Olympic Games, in particular the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the showcase athletics events as well as swimming, diving and cycling.

The Olympic Park occupies an area of about 500 acres, which is just over 202 hectares in a location near Stratford, in the East of London. This site will be home to the Athletes Village, the Aquatics Centre, the Hockey Centre, the Velopark as well as the centrepiece which is the main Olympic Stadium.

The Olympics are set to take place from 27th July 2012 until 12th August 2012. The Paralympic Games will follow the Olympics and will run from 29th August 2012 until 9th September 2012 and they will make use of the same facilities in the Olympic Park.
