London Film

We're turning into a nation of filmgoers. Cinema attendances are up to their highest levels ever. But if only the quality matched the quantity. For all the success of the mainstream multiplex, the smaller art-house and repertory cinemas have been closing down left right and centre. The Everyman in Hampstead has gone (rumoured to be opening again, but we'll believe it when we see it) and the Lumiere is about to become a hotel. All's not lost though - the the brand new Lux Cinema in Hoxton has a superb and varied programming policy.

Meanwhile the enormous Odeon Leicester Square has had a welcome facelift both internally and externally. From outside we get a classic art deco look, inside its all fake leopard skin chairs and kitsch.

We will soon be displaying current film times for cinemas throughout central London here.
