Blackfriars Bridge was built in 1864 to 1869, and cost £320,000. The original Blackfriars Bridge was at first called Pitt Bridge Close here at the wide part of Bridge Street was Chatham Place, and at No. 8, the house of Dr. Budd a Physician at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Lord Nelson's Lady Hamilton, when Emma Lyon, lived as nursery. maid; at the same time the housemaid at Dr. Budd's was Mrs. Powell, afterwards celebrated for her beauty and talents as an actress.
