About Cheapside

Cheapside is a street in the City of London, linking Newgate Street with the junction of Queen Victoria Street, Cornhill, Threadneedle Street, Princes Street, Lombard Street and King William Street via The Poultry.

The names in the streets leading from Cheapside are mostly named after what was sold in them in olden times, such as Wood, Milk, Bread, Honey, Poultry etc. (bread Street was the birthplace of John Milton).

All these streets used to constitute, with part of Cannon Street and St. Paul's Churchyard, the centre of' the Wholesale Drapery Trade in London, with famous brands such as Morleys' and Cooks' which used to be household names amongst drapers.
