About London Bridge
London Bridge Built of granite, from the designs of John Rennie, was completed in 1831, and cost £2,000,000. It connects the City with the Borough and the South of London. The traffic is enormous both for vehicles and pedestrians, and is another of those views of London life which the stranger should see, especially at the busy hours of the day.
London Bridge Railway Station (south Eastern and London, Brighton and South Coast Railway termini) contributes largely to this traffic. The view down the Thames from the bridge is interesting. The Tower Bridge shows finely, and during the summer season the starting of the passenger steamers for Margate and Ramsgate, Clacton and Yarmouth, etc., adds to the animation of the scene.
