Bath and Stonehenge-Late Departure
Event location: Gray Line London. Ongoing event.
STONEHENGE " 5,000 years ago these 40-ton rocks were dragged to the lonely windy plain of Salisbury Hill, and their secrets continue to tantalize and intrigue scholars and visitors to this day. Some say that Stonehenge was a religious temple, others that it was an astronomical clock, or a Bronze Age burial ground.
BATH " Standing on the slopes of the River Avon, the honey-colored Georgian terraces have enchanted visitors and residents alike for centuries. Bath owes its existence to the hot spring water that, according to legend, cured the ancient British King Bladud of leprosy. During the tour we'll visit the Roman Baths that made the city famous, the best preserved Roman Spa from the ancient world, but then tantalizingly hidden from view until the 1870's.
*** GRAY LINE UNIQUE FEATURE ***
TORCH-LIT EXPERIENCE " Join an authentic Roman character to participate in a torch lighting ceremony when the torches around the Great Roman Bath are lit, recreating the atmosphere 2000 years ago when Roman ladies and gentlemen rubbed shoulders with fashionable local citizens as they relaxed in the natural waters.
This tour finishes at approximately 8:00pm.
