 Bizet's indelible portrait of the willful gypsy woman is conveyed through a forceful, beguiling, and unforgettable score. Mezzo-soprano Olga Borodina brings sultry vocalism to the title role, opposite Marcelo Ălvarez in his Met role debut as Don JosĂ©, the proud soldier destroyed by his encounter with the seductive gypsy. Maija Kovalevska returns, fresh from her acclaimed performances as Euridice in 2006-07, as MicaĂ«la, and Lucio Gallo makes his Met role debut as Escamillo.
