The Other People: Live Portraits

*Tickets are available for this event. See booking button below.

Event at National Portrait Gallery from Friday 4 Apr 2008 to Saturday 5 Apr 2008

Real, living people are presented and ’framed’ alongside the Gallery’s permanent collection in this radical and thought-provoking event by the Other People. The unusual situation of being able to stand and look at another person as though they were an ’artwork’ turns the traditions of portraiture on their head, while raising fascinating questions about performance, identity and liveness.

Live Portraits include -  Shunt’s own Serena Bobowski, celebrated Architect Will Alsop and the great conceptual painter Bruce McLean, professional wrestler Craig Briscoe, who as QT McFluff takes on the persona of a gay idol despite being heterosexual outside of the ring, mobile phone technician Abdul Hai Soorty, the artist Peader Kirk (whose face was destroyed in an unprovoked attack on the Tube, and has now been reconstructed through surgery), and an attempt at a live portrait of a recently deceased man, Edward Hampton, who was born 100 years ago on April 4th.
