 Picasso, arguably the greatest artist of the 20th century, pitted himself against the Old Masters in a life-long artistic dialogue. 'Picasso: Challenging the Past' will explore the ways he took up the artistic concerns of the painters of the past and made audacious paintings of his own.
Featuring some 60 works by Picasso, the exhibition will display his responses to the grand tradition of European painting. Different sections of the exhibition will look at Picasso's development of the self portrait, the Spanish tradition of the male portrait, the female nude, the still life, and the seated female figure.
