 John Adams " the composer of Nixon in China " turns his fertile imagination to another seminal moment in modern history: the creation of the atomic bomb. Doctor Atomic focuses on the moral dilemma surrounding J. Robert Oppeheimer's apocalyptic invention, in a major new co-production between ENO and the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
In this UK premiere, award-winning director Penny Woolcock's imaginative staging will feature designs by Julian Crouch (Satyagraha) and moving images by Fifty-Nine Productions Ltd. Dynamic young conductor Lawrence Renes leads ENO Orchestra and Chorus in what promises to be a night of extraordinary creative potency.
