When a country has a colonial past, it is invariably colonised in turn by the cuisine of its former colonies, in this case, the country is Morocco and the cuisine irresistible. Set in the centre of town, hard by the Centre Pompidou, Au Pied de Chameau - At the Foot of the Camel - offers a quick trick into 1001 Nights. The decor is old-style Moroccan, with arched doorways, authentic tapestries and artworks, and a souk-like atmosphere. The food is authentic. Try a series of hot and cold starters like tabouleh or Moroccan omelet, then move on to a couscous or tagine. There’s a club for dancing down in the arched cellars, so make an Arabian night of it.
