A longtime favourite of Barcelonans, from the 1920s until the next century, probably, El Gran Cafè restaurant feels every bit like a Parisian Art Nouveau brasserie. The Modernista style is glamourous, with red velvet curtains, original paintings, statuettes, grand brass chandeliers, soaring pillars, live piano in the evenings and a balcony from which to survey the scene. You’ll feel as if you’re on a movie set. The menu is a careful selection of traditional Catalan dishes like Paella Costa Brava and French ones like steak tartare. People tend to return again and again, not least because the prices are moderate and the service superb.
