About Vecchia Milano

In the age of the Super Brand it’s inevitable that Oxford Street eateries are dominated by big names. Happily, just off the famous thoroughfare are a number of noteworthy independents, of whom Vecchia Milano is surely one. Founded in 1971, it’s an old restaurant whose beautiful Belle Epoque somehow best suits the generally older regulars. It specialises in simple, pure northern Italian cuisine such as piccatina Siciliana, a house specialty of veal slices, simmered in fresh orange juice, sultanas, almonds and a dash of Marsala wine, alongside traditional national dishes like pizza margherita and lasagne. Food can be matched with northern Italian wine favourites such as pinot grigio, soave and barolo. Friendly service, led by the charming Riccardo.
