About Ida Mae

Named for the chef’s real Texan grandmother, Ida Mae’s Restaurant ’n’ Lounge is a load of fun in the Garment District, serving a wild fusion of Southern cookin’ Manhattanified with French techniques and modern presentation. The lounge side is pasha-like with bright colours and an eclectic collection of artefacts. The dining room is funky, with African tapestries and bright blue chairs -- the overall effect is smart. If Ida Mae herself might not recognise all the ingredients in the dishes, New Yorkers adore them. Do not miss the starter of sweet potato ravioli with chive butter sauce and a touch of nutmeg. The main courses include poached Maine lobster with medallions of grilled grits with creamed leeks and apples with crayfish butter, and desserts include Mason-Dixon classic apple pandowdy with vanilla-beam ice cream and tuile.
