About l’auberge at the Whyte Harte

Said to have been built in 1388, the Whyte Harte Hotel is one of Britain's few surviving Medieval inns. Since the reign of Richard II of England it's offered cheer, nice food, locally brewed ales and comfort to locals and visitors. Much of the old charm remains, thanks to the lovely log fire, exposed brick walls, oak beams and happy-in-their-skin regulars. The dining room is particularly rustic with its job lot of worn wooden tables, old-fashioned lamps, pot plants and candles. As befits an inn, the menu is more gastropub than fine dining and is a tempting mix of British classics with a few judiciously-introduced French influences... liver and bacon, pork fillet with mustard sauce, vegetarian stroganoff, that kind of thing. Great desserts.
