About Camerino

Though gorgeous little neighbourhood restaurants are few and far between at the heart of the West End, this is the genuine article. Located just off Tottenham Court Rd, Camerino (meaning ’dressing room’) is small but chic and has a lovely warm atmosphere. Creamy walls are hand painted with arty floral motifs, while dashes of red curtain lend a theatrical air. All this is mere preface, however, to the stunning food. Head Chef Valerio Daros worked as Sous Chef to the legendary Giorgio Locatelli for four years. And it shows... Daros is a true artist and his interpretation of classic regional Italian cooking is uniquely inspiring. Thinly sliced veal is paired with a creamy tuna sauce and, for a touch of sweetness, diced apple, raisins and capers. A wonderfully light starter. Sea-bream (on a bed of juicy spinach) comes topped with a slick of rich black olive paste, sprinkled with slithers of firey radish and fragrant chives. A taste sensation! The pasta is divine - classic clam linguine is spiced up with a subtely sweet chilli sauce. You’ll savour every mouthful. And, if you love a good pud... mamma mia! The trio of home-made ice creams (chocolate, vanilla and mint) is perhaps the best you’ll ever taste, while the likes of cold orange zabaione with fresh strawberries will bring your tastebuds to their knees. The wine list is exclusively Italian. A highlight is the Verdicchio Classico 2003 (Sartarelli, Marche) which is crisp and zingy with a slightly fizzy bite. Of course, it’s the people that make a place... and here Camerino excels again. Staff are exemplary. Efficient, unobtrusive and charismatic, they’ll make you feel utterly at home.

Don’t miss: fellow guests who happen to be famous loveys; the cute loos - possibly the dinkiest in London; the house Limoncello - like you’ve never tasted it - the perfect way to finish your meal...
