Hawtrey’s is the luxurious new restaurant at the 3-star Barn Hotel in rural Ruislip. Its striking design is based on a Jacobean baronial hall, which means an ornate coffered ceiling supported by carved oak hammer beams. Crisp white tablecloths and fine bone china sets contrast with the surrounding warm mahogany panelling - an ideal setting for ladies who lunch, business folk, foodies and romantic diners alike. The setting might be thoroughly English but the cuisine, directed by the Michelin-starred protégé of Gordon Ramsay and former head-chef at Amaryllis Restaurant in Glasgow, Colin Buchan, is Modern French to the last. The whole charming affair is overlooked by restaurant manager Patrice and his enthusiastic team. Stood opposite Ruislip station, Hawtrey’s is hardly hard to find or get to.
