"The Best Belgali Food For Miles"

A review of Joy by Mike Green - Sunday 31st of December 2006

Jafoor Ahmed and his team at Joy in Broadway Market cook the best Bengali food to be had for miles. I’ve eaten in some of the best restaurants in Brick Lane, Algate, Whitechapel and as far afield as Bradford's Golden Mile - and Joy serves food as good as any of them. Having just read a very poor review I can only think that the reviewer must have chosen a day when everyone was off sick. If I have a criticism, it is that the menu is still a bit lost in the 1980s and needs to modernise. Broadway Market is a location frequented by yuppies who expect new and different food, which is why they congregate in Armadillo, Buen Ayre, La Bouche and Little Georgia. But for reliable, well-cooked Indian food you need look no further than Joy.
