"A good night out in a chip shop?"

I was surprised when friends invited me to meet them at a fish and chip shop for an evening out, but if I'd been to Happy Days before I would have fully understood why they did so. The delightful Michael runs a traditional fish and chip shop serving everything you'd expect - from excellent battered cod to pickled onions - but Happy Days also has a restaurant area. So, if you want to eat in rather than having a take away you can sit in a simply decorated candlelit room, sipping very fairly priced wine and enjoying whatever you like from the traditional fish shop suspects [including saveloys] but Michael also grills sea bass, skate and other beautifully fresh fish with which you can have mushy peas and chips or a delicately dressed Greek salad. The prices are so reasonable they will astonish those used to eating in this area. We shared plates of fat grilled prawns to begin, couldn't have eaten more food or drunk more wine if we'd tried, and it came to about £15 per head. Go before too many people discover it and you can't get a table..
