"Life Style London report 7-03-10"
A review of German Television ZDF by Raymond Schmid - Monday 8th of March 2010
Your report about Alice in Wonderland broadcast on the Sunday 7-03-10 was incorrect. You visited Oxford University Library and stated that the young girl Alice Liddell, daughter of one of Charles Dodgeson's colleagues was the inspiration for Alice in the book. This is the false story that Oxford University likes to put about. The model for Alice was a young girl who lived in Crawley, Sussex. Her name was Kate Lemon. The artist Tenniell regularly visited Crawley and Kate, as Kate was the picture that Charles Dodgeson had in his mind when writing the story.Kate with her long locks. Alice's name was taken from the Oxford girl only. Crawley museum has all this information, drawings and part of her house beams, when the house was pulled down by Crawley council in 1995.
