Woolworth plc provided excitement and amusement for all British people, and their ethos will be sorely missed. I was given a store to manage on my 19th birthday (protem management was actively encouraged by head office) and it was the most exciting thing to do. Total responsibility at that age was breathtaking. I worked 75 hours a week, stoked the coke boiler in my best suit, and loved it.Keeping so many lines in stock was a challenge but what joy to learn the business. Thank you to my bosses at Woolworth for my 30 years well rewarded with regular promotion..no job could have been better .
