"Fast Bowling/Big hitting"

A review of Wanstead Cricket Club by John Long written on Monday 9th of August 2010

My father R.T.Long played for Wanstead C.C from 1946 until the late sixties. He was an excellent fast and accurate bowler. Also well known for his magnificent hitting going in at number 10 or 11.and often blasting the ball all over the ground. He was often known as just R.T.

I ocasionally go back to the ground and visit the club house to sentimentaly look at the photographs around the walls. I used to be a practice member and my brother Roger was 1st team scorer for many years.I was also a member of Linkside Tennis Club. I also remember swimming in the lake and recovering golf balls belonging to the adjacent golf club members! All these activites were from 1945 - 1970. Happy Days.
