"Debit/Credit Card machine not working "

4 of us went for a meal. First of all one of the Steaks was undercooked it was rare instead of medium. We were all finished our meal by the time the wrong meal came back. We had drinks starters, Mains and coffee to finish. They presented us with the bill and as it was our daughters birthday, it was our treat we gave them a debit card only to be told couldn't take it, machine wasn't working and the waitress just walked off. We then had to pull our resources to find the cash to pay the bill. How very embarassing it was for us. What would have happened had we not enough money between us to pay bill. In this day and age how can a restaurant say machine is not working, there should be a back up plan.
