"Don't ask for an Americano!"

Stumbled across Don Luigi whilst wandering around Soho on Saturday night.

Like the earlier reviewer, we were shown to our table by Don Luigi himself, a very affable chap from Sorrento with just that little touch of Italian pride that may seem like arrogance (but isn't).

Not the most extensive menu or wine list, but something for everyone and very well balanced. I also get the feeling that should you ask for something 'off menu' they would be able to accommodate you.

I had Insalata Don Luigi, a tricolore salad of avocado, mozzarella di bufala and tomato with a simple but excellent dressing, followed by Swordfish, while my wife went for soup and an excellent pasta dish - the pasta being cooked perfectly.

We also had a bottle of Sicilian Corvo Rosso - a strange choice with the food perhaps, but we both love Sicilian red wine - which was also excellent.

When ordering coffee I had an espresso while my wife wanted just a filter coffee with milk. I asked for an Americano which incurred mock indignation from Don Luigi as he insisted it was just coffee with milk. I asked him how this sould be ordered in Italian and he said that there was no real name for it as they wouldn't drink that sort of thing in Italy.

All in all an enjoyable experience. The owner and the staff are very friendly and enjoyed making fun of my pathetic attempts to order in my very limited Italian. The bill came to less than £70 for the two of us with water, wine, bread and olives which, considering the location and the quality of the food, counts as a veritable bargain. .
