"What a shame..."

A group of friends and i met up for a catch up in what we had heard was a friendly, welcoming, family run Italian cafe with a plan to return later on for a meal. However we couldn't have been more wrong.

We ordered our coffees while we waited for the whole group to arrive the waitress then came over to take our food order, when we told the waitress that we only planned to have a coffee this time we were reprimanded and she went off to get another member of staff who then came over to our table . May i point out that the cafe had at least 6 empty tables, in fact only 3 tables were in use, one of which was ours. The second member of staff then continued to tell us that we were not allowed to just order drink, in spite of taking our order for drinks with no mention of this 'rule' and told us that we needed to drink them quickly and leave... not the sort of Italian hospitality i had expected!

At this point we all started to feel uncomfortable especially as the second waitress was now presiding over our table urging us to drink up and repeatedly telling us this wasn't allowed. This was all very embarrassing and unnecessary as we now wanted to leave anyway. We tried to continue our conversation while hurriedly drinking our drinks when the waitress arrived with the bill.

Needless to say we ate at a different restaurant later in the afternoon. Eating out should be a pleasant experience. What a shame the staff do not realise the value of hospitality, as their attitude meant that we did not get to try the food today and i would neither recommend or return.

Ann.
