"Cheap perfect Chinese"

A review of Jen Cafe by Jo - Friday 16th of March 2007

I went to Jen Cafe twice around March 07. I, like a few others, have cravings for particular Chinese dishes regularly, and at the moment that is roast duck and BBQ/belly pork on rice. But I also wanted to find a genuine Chinese eatery- not a sweet-and-sour-pork-all-round-tourist-trap. And cheap to boot. Then I found this place and my partner who has been to China said it looked suitably authentic, rickety and charmingly filthy inside.. and it serves bubble tea (soya milkshake with tiny cartoony balls at the bottom to suck up through a giant straw- delicious, only in China would they come up with such a Manga fantasy type drink). It is £4.20 odd for a plateful of good food - and the service is really sweet and friendly- unlike Wonkeis or Crispy Duck, where they stressfully hover fanatically unill you finish only to usher you out as they ushered you in- rudely. They are the only other cheap and genuine China Town food houses i think. If you are poor this Jen Cafe place is great.
