I attended Rotherhithe New Road School,as it was known then, fron 1940 until 1946(11 plus year) and enjoyed every moment there. The worst memory was on one day(Wednesday I believe) at about 12.30am when a German aircraft machined gun along Old Manor Lane, two of my friends were injured in the legs, I was OK as I had just then turned into my house in Old Road.

I played football and cricket for the school, encouraged by Mr.Lilley, the headmaster, who continued, whenever possible, in the interest in my sports when I played for Bermondsey Central School and London schoolby teams, football and cricket.

Yes it was a good old school, times have changed but I hope children enjoy the place as much as I did..
