"What a shame."

Without prejudice.
I have travelled with Kenya Airways a number of times and so has my sister and friends on separate occasions. We booked our tickets in November to flight to Kenya in March 2008. Sadly, the unrest has meant that the British Foreign Office has strongly advised against travel to Western and Nyanza provinces. We cannot get insurance to travel there, so we cannot go. The place we travel to is a well known and successful school in Kenya called Friends' School, Kamusinga near Bungoma. The school was founded some 53 years ago by my father. I go back regularly at the request of the school to help out and talk to the students, just bring a different perspective and most of all learn.
Unfortunately, Kenya Airways has refused either to refund or transfer our flights to a later date. We would be happy with the later solution. Yes, they are probably sticking to the legal side of the contract, but where is the spirit of the Airline in this apparently intractable situation. I have always regarded the Kenya Airways as a first class company and have, on most visits to Kenya, flown with them.
We are so disappointed not to be able to go and although our loss is small in the order of things in Kenya at present, only the cost of the tickets, it is a very short sited policy of the company to not sympathetically reconsider the situation for us and some others caught in this legal loop hole, especially as we will travel to Kenya again some day soon I hope, but perhaps not with Kenya Airways.
