Right on our doorstep so thought we'd give Shamrat a try. I really enjoyed my chicken balti although I suspect the coloured flecks in the pure white rice might have been dyed. My boyfriend thought his vegetable biriyani was average and we both disliked the popadums which had a disagreeable 'bad fat' taste. Please note, we are incredibly fussy and probably find fault with things others wouldn't even notice. Unlike the original reviewer, I was really impressed by the art on the walls although quite likely pics have changed since 2006. Service was good and friendly and Shamrat passed the Evening Standard's tap water on demand test. We learned from the waiter that the restaurant has been in the same family for 40 years, so although it was pretty quiet for a Saturday night it must be getting sufficient customers to keep going. All in all, a really good find for a local indian and prices and portion sizes were both fine. .
