"Challenging Experience"

We used this building company last year to complete a fairly small job in our property (renovations to one bedroom, installation of a skylight, moving a boiler). The job started out well, with progress made fairly rapidly. However, part way through the job we found it extremely difficult to get builders around to make any further headway on the work.
I wrote numerous emails and letters to the company, spoke to everyone I could, and I was continually assured that the work would be finished "next week" - which it never was. Our original one month job, which started in March, was finally completed in October/November.
The other issue we experienced was a constant "variation" on the original quotation. As an example, the original quotation included "installation of a door to the light well". Apparently, whilst this included installing the frame, it did not include the cost of the door itself, or indeed of plastering around the door frame or painting the door frame. These items were to be considered "variations" on the original quotation. To be fair, when we challenged this, they backed down, and we were not charged for this.
All in all, I would not recommend these builders.
