I was a pupil in 1940s.The school consisted of four class rooms Pupils started at 5yrs in the Infants (Miss Dunn)and left at 14,Headmaster was Mr Briggs (Briggsy)teachers were Miss Clark,Miss Hanlon, and another woman Teacher who I cant remember,(I am almost79)School Dinners were served in the end class room that looked out onto Brereton Rd.The Caretaker was Mr Hanlon,I dont think he was related to Miss Hanlon. He was a huge man who we nickname ,Puppy Hanlon.Oposite the school entrance in Brereton Rd there was a church and in front of he church was our Air Raid shelter ,when there was an Air Raid we all went to the shelter, and we used to sing songs to keep our sprits up.when the Germans were getting near France we had lots of French Children come to the school.which was exciting.after a year or so they left and we a lot of Gibalterians come to the school. In those days there were not many people from other countries living here, that is why it was so exciting to us to meet for the first time with French and Gibalterian children.Father Sowerby was the Priest at the school.I have lots of memories of the school, like getting the "Stick" for being late. I could go on but I feel I have taken eneough of your time so will bow out now..
