"End of an era!"

A review of Galtymore Dance Club by Andy McGovern - Friday 23rd of May 2008

I first arrived at Cricklewood Broadway in September 1954. Like many more Irish people of that era with a big empty suitcase and empty pockets! After a job was secured in a factory. My first night out was to the Galtymore. I danced there twice a week for 10 years. I returned to Ireland in the mid-sixties and that was the end of my dancing in the Galty. However, this year on the 29th February, I returned once more as a guest of honor of the Leitrim Association. I stayed in the now famous Crown Hotel where I had worked as a part-time barman in the fifties. It was a nostalgic moment for me and the silent tears, where shed! Goodbye to the Galty you made many lonely Irish people happy! Andy McGovern.
