"Avoid, avoid avoid!!"
A review of The Old Crown by Unhappy customer - Wednesday 2nd of July 2008
Maybe i was unlucky.. who knows.. but my experience certainly wasnt one to remember..When i first walked in the first warning bell should have sounded.. the place was empty. The bar itself is very dark.. the awful, boring, extremely outdated music didn't help the atmosphere either.. and to add to this, the music was constantly skipping! Second warning bell.. very limited choice of draught beer.. and 3 of them were not working!!! I ordered a pint (rather expensive for the area i thought) and a burger (again, quite expensive for such a place). The burger patty tasted very bland, was overcooked and the chips it came with looked like they had been fried earlier in the day then refried! The staff member was friendly enough.. but when the (im assuming) manager made an appearance in the bar he looked very unfriendly, grumpy and spoke very innapropriately to the bartender, all whilst pointing aggressively at the staff member.. After a quick google search there appears to be quite a few complaints about the managers there.. perhaps all these people cant be wrong!(one of the other reviews on this site appears to talk on the contrary). I can say one good thing about it though and that is that it was quite clean.. but cleanliness doesnt make my burger taste good, or fill empty kegs that need refilling.. in short, with all the choice in then vicinity it is not worth your time or effort to visit.. there are much nicer places a short walk up the hill into highgate.. hell, id probably try my luck in the dodgy bars down the road over this place!
