"Great Food close to home!"A review of The Old Bank by Ms B Reid - Thursday 3rd of July 2008Advertisements
Myself and my partner moved to Honor Oak Park in February this year. It was not until a few weeks ago that we decided to try The Old Bank, it was on a whim as we were late getting home from work and too tired to cook. What a very pleasant surprise indeed! I agree with everyone on the service, but on the 2 occassions (we have been back again already!) the restaurant has not been over-crowded so we were not waiting too long. I am not shy to flag down the waitress if I need a top up or to order our food! On the bread and olives front, I actually ordered this as part of our starter and on both occassions, the bread has been amazing - they were different on each occassion but both equally fresh and delicious (ask for balsamic vinegar and olive oil to dunk your bread in)! My partner requested an 'extra large' salad for a starter (which was not on the menu) and the chef was happy to oblige with a very tasty decent size salad. These starters kept us going so the wait for mains did not feel too long. Again when mains arrived we were very impressed. My partner ordered the lasagne which was very good (this was ordered again on the second occassion), and I ordered the conchiette broccoli which was delicious. The food is definitely worth the wait, as it is not pre-prepared but rather all cooked fresh only once ordered (the risotto take 25 mins as this is how long the rice takes to cook). Don't be shy to ask for what you want or to call the waitress over if you need a top up! Don't let the slow service put you off, the good food more than makes up for it (if you are not in a hurry!) I will definitely go back again and again. I am thinking of going again this Friday which will make it 3 visits in one month! |
