"Visual Art Censorship"

A review of Harrow Arts Centre by Barbara Woolner written on Monday 13th of October 2008

It is outrageous that the Harrow Arts Centre administration has decided to censor what may, or may not be hung on the walls of the Eliot Exhibition area.

A centre which promotes artistic endeavour, including life drawing classes, should not exclude the products of those clases, and the work of its tutors, from exhibition.

It is a well established practice to draw the nude human figure from life. It is not a gratutitous 'peep show' - as seems to be the attitude of those who have banned such representation.

Under these circumstances I urge all right thinking artists drawing or painting any subject to withdraw their artistic efforts from display at the Harrow Arts Centre and make their objections known.

As the membership contact with Herts Visual Arts I am informing our membership of this outrageous situation..
