Adam Street

Strand, No. 73. (WC2) Named after the brothers Adam, who built it. Becket, the bookseller, kept shop here, and his shop was the rendezvous of David Garrick, who never went to taverns, seldom to coffee-houses. At No. 1 lived Dr. Vicesimus Knox, one of "the British Essayists" (Reference: Timbs's Curiosities of London, p. 2) .
