Howard Street


Strand. (WC2) Named from Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel. Here lived William Mountfort, the actor, who was murdered before his own door in 1692. He was a friend of Mrs. Bracegirdle, the famous and beautiful actress, who also had lodgings in this street. (Reference: Timbs's Curiosities of London, p. 765)
