James Street


Covent Garden. (WC2) Name derived from James, Duke of York. David Garrick lived here in 1747, the year in which he became manager of Drury Lane. (Reference: Jesse's London, vol. I, pp. 341-53) Here, formerly, a bird-market was held on Sunday mornings. (Reference: Timbs's Curiosities of London, p. 294)
