Norfolk Street

Strand. (WC2) Named from the Dukedom of Norfolk. Here, in a house near the water-side, lodged Peter the Great in 1698. At the south-west corner lived William Penn, the Quaker, and founder of Pennsylvania. Here also lived Mountfort, the player. (Reference: Timbs's Curiosities of London, p. 765)
