Old Bailey

City. (EC4) Here formerly stood the prison of the same name. In this street was formerly Green Arbur Court, where Oliver Goldsmith resided in the outset of his career, "in a wretched dirty room in which there was but one chair, and when he, from civility, offered it to a visitor, himself was obliged to sit in the window." (Reference: Smith's Streets of London, p. 300)
