Sardinia Street

Kingsway. (WC2) Formerly called Duke Street. It contains some very old houses, and a Roman Catholic chapel said to be the oldest foundation now in the hands of the Roman Catholics in London. It was built in 1648, and was the object of a virulent attack during the Gordon Riots ; the exterior is singularly plain. (Holborn, Besant and Mitton, p. 29)
