Whitechapel

Stepney. (E1) Derives its name from the Church of St. Mary Matfeion - originally a chapel-of-ease to St. Dunstan's, Stepney-which, from the whiteness of its exterior, was called the White Chapel. This is the principal entrance into London from the eastern counties. (Reference: Jesse's London, vol. II, p. 338)
