Rotherhithe

About Rotherhithe

Rotherhithe is a peninsula on the south bank of the Thames in South East London in the London Borough of Southwark, near Deptford. The now-defunct Surrey Commercial Docks were situated here but since the 1980s have been redeveloped and is now largely a residential area.

It was near here that the old line of battle ship, the "fighting Temeraire," was lugged to her last berth to be broken up, and is the subject of Turner's picture.
