La Trompette

About La Trompette

When we say ’lucky Chiswick’ we’re not being condescending. With a restaurant like La Trompette just off their high street, we wonder that Chiswickians ever bother coming into town. Wittily formal box trees separate the restaurant from the bustle of traffic, as do the tinted sliding glass doors. The decor in soothing browns and fawns puts diners in mind of French rusticity. So does the food! This is classic French cooking, with dishes like peasant soup with foie gras, duck confit, cote de boeuf with chips, tarte fine of wood pigeon. If the Baked Alaska for two is on the pudding menu, we think it would be criminal for you to miss it. The chef has practiced his craft in two of the capital’s best kitchens: Chez Bruce and The Square. It’s all there on the plate. The ambience is smart casual for us, if blisteringly busy for the servers. They don’t seem to let on and keep the dining room humming contentedly.
